Completed:Green Derby Philadelphia
« on: Thursday 16 March 06 21:43 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone heard of the Green Derby. It may have been nightclub or some such venue in 1941.
My father was taken to the Green Derby in 1941 by his g.cousin Ethel ? (maiden name Beare) when the aircraft carrier he served on in WW2  was in Philadelphia for a refit.

My father died a few years ago.

Ethel had emigrated from Cornwall, England in 1902 and she would have been in her 50's in 1941.
I have a photograph of the family but no names. I know that Ethel divorced her husband Thomas Yelland in 1917 and at that time she was living in Texas. Unfortunately I don’t know what year Ethel went to live in Philadelphia.

I have a lot of information about Ethel until 1917 and after 1917  nothing.

I am hoping that if someone knows where the Green Derby so perhaps then I may have some idea where she lived.

If you go to the <www.msn.com> webpages, click on white pages on the left side of the screen.  Input Yelland and there are two listed in Arizona

Thank-you for the reply.

I have had the information about Thomas Yelland and family in the past. Roy was the nearest relative on the WW! draft card because Thomas and Ethel were not living together then.

Ethel after 1917 is the brickwall as she disappears after 1917 after the divorce.

All I have is the info about the Green Derby, whatever thatis and a photograph of Ethel with a group of people.

Hi maryanne !

I was going to suggest the "Brown Derby" - ( there's quite a few of those around - in America and Canada ) - but it looks  like Pat found the right one!!
