Trade Directory look up BURY ST EDMUNDS
« on: Tuesday 21 March 06 09:15 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Could anyone do a look up in the Trade Directories C1800 in Bury St Edmunds. I am looking for anyone called Davies, I think there maybe only one or two families.
Also are there any others sources that can be checked for this time to find people?
Hope you can help
Many Thanks
Jill

Hi Teddy,
Thanks for the recommendation it is a good site this one, isn't it? I have had a look and the only dir I could find for Sufflok was 1839 and there were only 2 Davies's who were Surgeons, which I'm sure are not the ones I'm looking for. So if you are able to check B st Ed if there is an earlier date than this I would be very greatful. I just checked the alphabet list at the beginning of each town which would be good enough if thats what you could do.
eternally grateful

Hi

Sorry but I am not able to check the Bury Directories, I'm not in Suffolk.  I was just giving you that addy as a lead.

As a not though, it is unlikely that there will be a much earlier directory than 1835 apart from the odd one for big cities.

A good source would be newspapers but thet would take ages to look through.

Have you looked at wills?  If your families were in a trade they most probably left wills.

Best of luck.
