which army regiment?
« on: Tuesday 21 March 06 18:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find out which army regiment my grandfather served in. I have an inkling he died in the Boer War c1900, but until I find out who he served with, I'm up the creek without a paddle.

Only info I have is his address in Stockton on Tees in 1891. Can anyone suggest where I might begin my quest?

desperate but hopeful.....

Are you sure its the 2nd Anglo-Boer War as that would put him aged 42-44?
I've reviewed the Imperial Yeomanry medal rolls & there is no William Chambers listed.

That just rules out one option & leaves all the regular units

Hi Paul

Sorry I'm so vague, it's one of those family stories that's been bandied about. I've no real proof that he was in the Boer War (either of them), but it's strange that I can't find a death record, his wife's status is widowed in 1901, and if he ran off, I can't find him on the census either.

If my request is too vague, then please don't waste any more of your time, I appreciate your input so far.

Lynn

You've been very kind Paul, and I'm so grateful for your time.

I suppose I'll give this one a rest for a while and pick it up again later in the year, perhaps when I've a lot more information to go on.

Best regards, and thanks again.
