Hi Robin

If your William Henry Bryant was convicted at the Old Bailey in 1834 aged 14, he was then then born in 1820.
You will not find a birth certificate for anyone born before Sept 1837 - the start of civil registration in England - all you will find is an entry in a Parish Register if he was baptized into the Church; but you need to know the area where he was born.  Court records and Local Newspapers are a mine of information for this type of query.
Because there were no photographs (but there was pen and ink drawings) in the newspapers of the day, the reporter had to paint a grapic picture by using words.

Best of luck in your search

thanks for the reply, I have  the transcript of his trial, and thought maybe someone might recognise the story, and could be related to him as don't know of any siblings at this stage, thanks for the information on the recording of births.
