Burial place: Hawick or Cavers?
« on: Wednesday 22 March 06 13:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

Does anyone know where someone who died at Commonside in 1849 would have been buried?  Genuki shows this as being in the parish of Teviothead, but this didn't exist until 1850.  I am reckoning that it would be either Hawick or Cavers before then, but not too sure.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I am hoping to go and research some MIs this weekend, but not sure where to search for this one ???

Cheers,
Clare

   hi clare
commonside lies just outside teviothead, south of hawick. cavers lies to the
north of hawick. the churchyard at teviothead has some very old graves.
i have heard of an old cemy at caerlanrig but never been there.

Hi Bougie,

Thanks for this.  I was hoping that the grave may be listed in the Hawick MIs, but I am guessing that this might not be the case now.

Cheers,

   hi clare
have done a little research. the cemy at teviothead is very old . it once came under the name of caerlanrig [pre 1840] and ministers from hawick and cavers
shared responsabilities for the church until it was given its own minister and named teviothead church.
what names are you looking for, maybe i can help. i have access to mi's for most of the local cemys around hawick at the local library.
inc cavers old church , hobkirk, all hawick and wilton and others. dont know
about tevoithead though never had to look for that one.
    let me know.  bougie

Hi Bougie, please would it be possible for you to see if there is a William Rae and Margaret Grieve in the Hawick, Cavers or Teviothead MI's for me sometime, I think their daughter Violet might have been born about 1805/1806.

Would be very grateful for any help you can give me.

Thanks

Anna
