Hi there,

I have never tracked down a marriage for her, despite trying.  She is listed in the 1841 census as Aitchison, at Commonside.  Her Inventory of 1849 shows her as Aitchison and never mentions a spouse.  I am aware that she may have married and retained her maiden name, but I would expect her MI to show the same name as the inventory.  If the birth record from 1777 is actually her, then she was born in Castleton and her son was also born there.  However, I have the MIs for Castleton and she is not listed in there, so I guess she wasn't returned there to be buried.

Cheers,
Clare

Hi Bougie, Thanks very much for that, the Violet Rae fits in perfectly with the age of my Violet the only thing being that on Violet's death certificate the maiden name of the mother is different, what do you reckon, do you think there is a chance that Violet's children got the maiden name of their grandmother wrong at all?

Would be very grateful for your opinion on this one

Thanks

Anna

Hi Bougie, please can I ask another big favour, please would it be possible for you to check the Yarrow MI's for me sometime for Violet Rae and Andrew Rodger as Andrew is another big mystery to me, haven't got a clue where he died but think he was born in Traquair, Peebleshire.

As always very grateful for any help you can give me.

Thanks

Anna

   hi anna
i think it is indeed possible that violets son got his grandmothers
m.s. wrong as she died before he was born and he grew up only
knowing his stepgrandmother. i will try to check out violets hubby for
  you .

Hi Bougie, Thanks very much, greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for your opinions, a lot of the other details seemed so right about Violet and also with the Rae family gravestone being in a place Violet mentioned as a place of birth.

Just one more question, on Scotlands People John Rae and Violet Scott got married in I think Hawick and then a few days later there is another marriage for them in Roberton, what do you think that was all about please?, do you think they maybe had marriage ceremonys in the bride's and groom's parishes.

Thanks

Anna

Hi Anna,

If it is 2 OPR records on Scotland's People that you are referring to, it is possible that the records are actually the Banns being read in both the bride and groom's parishes.
