looking for robert batey 1881/1891 census

i have looked for robert and his family for two days now can somebody please help he must be out there somewhere 
i have him in the 1901 census married ,i have just recieved his birth cert and the info i have so far is
his full name robert james batey born hebburn durham may 1875 father called john occupation engine driver (on roberts wedding cert he is a boatman )
mother called jane dixon batey nee winthrop .i have found jane in 1871 born about 1854 in wigton cumberland with her parents and found her parents in the 1881 census but cant find robert with his parents in 1881 or 1891 anywhere

probably a spelling error or cant read the handwriting when i have nothing to do  i will have to search the area where here parents live see if i can dig them out at least i now know they were there somewhere was beginning to think his parents had died

Good idea because if they are still recorded with just initials and surname mis-spelt and age a year out no Index on earth will find them

I have found people before by trailing through images.

I know the surname is completely wrong (not even a misspelling!), but their first names, ages, and John's occupation match what you already knew.

A very strong 'possible' i think!
