Rook Clarke
« on: Wednesday 29 March 06 09:20 BST (UK) »
William Rook married Mary Ellen Clarke 1878 in South Australia.

Williams father is David Rook, Mary's father is Thos Henry Clarke.

William Born abt 1855, Mary born abt 1856.

Can't find any record of them being born in Australia and Mary's death cirtificate shows her born in England.

Can't find any death info for their fathers in Australia.

Hoping to find passenger info for Mary and William to see if other family members travelled with them.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

Thanks
John

Dear John,

Hi.  I tried to do this search for you but got an error message due to having Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.  Have a go:-

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PASSENGER LISTS - SHIPPING & IMMIGRATION

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~leadbeater/passengerlists/

Another good one:

WEBSITES FOR GENEALOGISTS (shipping links)

http://www.coraweb.com.au/

And I found 4137 Rook's on http://www.GenesReunited.com with 7146 surname variants too numerous to list here.

Make sure you try every combination of spellings as that's the usual thing we all find - names transcribed incorrectly.

Hi John
I think that this is a daughter of David Rook

Hi Ally. I will check out those sites you mentioned.

Hi Sid. David was married in Port Pirie and Tilley was married close by in Jamestown. So seems like a real posability. Tilley sounds like an unusual name, I wonder if is an abreviation of another name.

Thanks to you both for your help

john

No worries. John.  Tilley could be short for Matilda.

And if you check out the GenesReunited website, it will cost you $19.95 aussie dollars to register annually to put your tree on-line.  It's brilliant though as not everyone can see your tree - you have to give permission. But the beauty of it is that you get 'hot matches' with the names in your tree every 14 days.

I went from 300 names to 6000 in three months.  enealogy is a very serious hobby for a lot of people.   Allycat.

Hi Bob

Yes Elizabeth born in 1890 is my grandmother and William who died in 1891 is her father, my great grand father.

Unfortunatly I haven't been able to back from them but will keep trying.

Thanks for your reply

Have now found 3 children that could be from Tilley Rook and Charles Schmidt.

But they show them as Matilda Rook and Charles Smith.

The 3 birth occure in the 4 years following their marriage so is a good possability.

And all born in Jamestown were they were married.
