Can anyone help?
« on: Wednesday 29 March 06 19:00 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm currently researching my Grandmother who died on 13/11/66. I wanted to try and find any notices from friends any family in the local paper, but I don't know where I would go to find the archives.
Can anyone tell me where I would need to go, or whether there is anyone out there that could do a search?
She was born on 03/06/23, and she her funeral was about two weeks after she died. Her name was Elsie Thorpe (nee Swift) and she lived in St. Ann's.
Thanks.

The main paper is the Evening Post.  It is archived at Central Library, Angel Row, Nottingham City Centre, on microfilm.  If you're not local I can do a search for you when next 'in town'.

Sherwood.
CRESSWELL/CRESWELL (Nottingham), MARTIN (Nottingham), ARGENT (Derby), DEXTER (Derby), BAINES (Uppingham), NUTT (Uppingham), LENAGHAN/LENAGAN/LANEHEN, etc (Ireland and Stamford), WINTERS (Nottingham), SLANEY (Nottingham), BULL (Yorkshire), MITCHELL (Yorkshire)

I've searched the Nottingham Evening Post microfilm archive from 13 Nov 1966 onwards for 2 weeks.  Unfortunately, there's no record of Thorpe at all in the 'Deaths' column.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
My mother told me it was Nov 1966, but thinking about it she also said my Gran died when she was 44. She was born in 1923, so that would make it Nov 1967.
Sorry about that Sherwood...it's only just occured to me.
Is there anyone out there who could do a search for me? Her maiden name was Swift. She was married to George Thorpe. They lived in St. Ann's in case that helps.
Any info would be fantastic.
Many thanks.

Burto,

I searched Nottm Evening Post archives today for 13th to 23rd Nov 1967 and also 13th to 23rd Nov 1968 for good measure.  Sorry to say that there are no obituaries for Thorpe in either of these periods.
