1891 Census Look-Up Please - JOWETT - Shipley Area
« on: Saturday 09 October 04 21:30 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help to find FRANCIS WILLIAM JOWETT (b. 12th November 1844), his wife EMILY ANN and their family please.

In 1881 Francis was a Pork Butcher and they were living at 51 Briggate, Shipley with children John W., Clara, Francis E., Sarah A. & Kezia.

I think I have found them in 1901 (at 51 Dove St., Shipley) but there are 5 more children and he has become a Wool Warehouseman!

Thank you very much.

Hi Nicky,

Many thanks for that.   I did wonder if it might be Salts Mill - I've been there - but the geography in my head couldn't remember how far from Saltaire it is to Shipley!   I was planning to get a map out but you've saved me the trouble!   It's a lovely part of the country - I envy you.   That is from a Yorkshire lass stuck in the flatlands of Lincolnshire!

Best wishes.

Hi Jill, I'm quite new to this site, I've just read your post regarding Francis W Jowett and his wife Emily Ann Stead they are my GG Grandparents. I'm trying to confirm the parents of Emily Ann Stead at the moment I'm thinking its Willy Stead and Hannah Thomas, can you shine any light on who it might be?
      Many Thanks Steve

Non Conformist Marriage entry states that Emily is illegitimate - address 387 Bolton Road, Bradford.

She is a servant living at that address in 1871

Hi, Thanks for that response. I do know she married Francis W Jowett on 17th April 1871 at Saltaire Congregational Church, Saltaire, Bradford. I do have a Birth cert for a 'Emily Ann Stead' born 1854. It shows the parents Willy Stead and Hannah Thomas. There is a 1861 census entry showing Emily with just her Mother Hannah could this be the same person you have stated.
               Many Thanks Steve
