Searching for Charlotte WINCH on the 1841 and 1851 censuses
« on: Sunday 02 April 06 02:00 BST (UK) »
I would like to find Charlotte WINCH (b ca1820-1830, Camberwell) in the 1841 and 1851 census, pls.  She was not with her family at Camberwell & Newington in the 1841 census nor at Camberwell in the 1851 census (after searching the old fashioned way using LDS film). Perhaps her name is misspelled in the indexed 1851 census.

I have found her in the 1861, 1871, 1881 & 1891 census where her occupation was given as a bank shareholder & she was unmarried.  But sometime before 1861, she got lucky & came into this wealth from where is still a mystery.

At her death in 1891, her wealth of £2342, mostly in Bank of Australasia shares, was willed to 17 of her relatives, all poor.  Her parents would be Giles and Mary aka Jane WINCH, a coachman, and all their other children were bapt in the Camberwell St Giles church except Charlotte.  (But nothing further is known about Sarah, bapt 1818).

Hi Claire and Suffolk Suepip,

Thank you both.  The Wanck spelling must have been the problem in the 1851 census.  The 1841 entry opens up a new direction for me to follow up. Gazania

Hi Gazania

I realise this is a very old thread, however I wonder if you were able to find out more about Charles Daniell? I have just come across this old post while researching Charlotte Winch.

Kind Regards
