Thanks for that Nicky,

That does look like him... it a bit early in the morning here, but i wondered if maybe Diana was a Plumpton it 1841, or is that a long shot, why did her son have a different name then... am i going to wake up in a min and think that was a silly question....

i Googled "Blue Coat Charity School"  found some interesting info on that, thought it may have been a school for poor or naughty children..

Is Tudge a common names back then....

once the dau Diana / dinah married they changed there names like it was going out to of fashion,  might look back it that and see if there is any clues.

Thank you so much , every bit helps..

best wishes
Ann

Hello Ann W

I have been tracing the Plumpton line. I believe that Diana Plumpton  had Joseph Plumpton rechristened in Birmingham. I have actually seen this before in the Lancashire area.
Also on the IGI Diana appears as Shaso. However on the London Parish Records (Marriage 1817 )it is Shaw.
Other children born to her and Samuel are John 1818, Samuel 1820, James 1821. None of these children appear in the 1841 census with her. Nor does her 2nd husband ? Tudge.

The name Tudge as been transcribed as Fodge for the ancestry 1841 Census: HO107; Piece 1145; Book: 8; Civil Parish: Birmingham; County: Warwickshire; Enumeration District: 24; Folio: 11; Page: 15; Line: 25; GSU roll: 464181.

I have also been unable to find a certain death for Samuel Plumpton. Or a Marriage record of a Dinah/Diana Shaw or Plumpton to a Tudge.

By 1851 Census Diana is a widow again. She appears in the 1861 Census. and I have a Death Index for Mar 1879.

Hope this is useful if you need anything on Joseph Plumpton let me know.

Hi Ann

I am guessing that's a type error and you meant G. Plumpton c 1770.

Sadly for me my own pc  as give up the fight and died I never got around to saving a lot of things including all my notes on the Plumpton tree. I am sure I had possible parents of Samuel Plumpton but nothing certain

Having said that the London Parish Register on Ancestry was not available back then so I will do a search later and get back to you if I find anything.

But yes Joseph did marry a Ann Cutler and they had 9 children all born in Birmingham.  The tree I am researching follows Thomas Plumpton born c 1863

Catherine Plumpton
1853

Mary Ann Plumpton
1859

Joseph Plumpton
1861

Thomas Plumpton
1863

Eliza Plumpton
1865

William Plumpton
1870

Emily Plumpton
1873

Elizabeth Plumpton
1874

Ann Plumpton
1876

If you want any further details just let me know. Looking on Ancestry I can see there are quite a few people researching this tree and I have just found Ann Cutlers Parents and grandparents.

Your welcome.

Hope those brick walls come down.

Couple of questions. I found the BMD index for Diana Tudge marriage, only the options are a Thomas Cross or John Hoselby.

However on the 1861 census I find Diana down as born 1832 and her husband is Thomas Husselbee.

Is this a transcript error on BMD or was both John and Thomas his name?

And what was a Japanner?

Marjie
