Evans marriage, 1820s CAIO?
« on: Wednesday 05 April 06 08:25 BST (UK) »
Could somebody please help me finding a marriage in Carmarthenshire in the early to mid 1820s in or around the Caio area.

First of all, the facts as I have them:

Here are the census entries for John Evans:
1851, aged 30, born in Cayo, CMN, occ: late farmer
1861, aged 32, born Carmarthen, occ.: Cooper
1871, aged 50, born Carmarthen, Caio, occ Cooper
1881 aged 60, born Pimsaint, Carmarthen, occ Cooper
1891 aged 70, Cayo, Carmarthen, occ Cooper
1901 aged 75, Caeo, Carms, occ.: Cooper

I have not as yet been able to positively identify John in 1841, as I not 100% convinced I have the right one in 1851.

At Johns marriage in 1860 he gave his age as 32.
His burial in 1905 gave his age as 76

The census facts point to John being born about 1821, however, his marriage and death both point to a DoB of 1828/29.

I have searched the parish records and the surviving non-conformist registers for Johns christening, to no avail. I would now like to concentrate on identifying his parents and siblings.

John gave his fathers name on his marriage certificate as Evan Evans, a farmer. Unfortunately, BMD registration started too late for Johns birth to be registered, hence no chance of a birth certificate to find out his mothers name. The only possibility I have is to find the marriage of Johns parents.

Can anyone help?

There is only one marriage in Conwil Caio in 1820s of an Evan Evans. On 08/11/1822 Evan Rees  Evans (Lampeter)to Lettice David. However heres two earlier ones in Conwil .John could be the youngest of his siblings so his parents could have married earlier than when he was born.Evan Evans Farmer to Mary Lewis on 13/11/1804 and Evan Evans to Mary Daniel on 10/03/1809.Best Wishes Welsh Lady

Thanks for that. At least I now know I have 3 to work on.

I have found an Evan Evans in 41 and 51, with a daughter named Lettice. But I'm not convinced that this is the right one - call it gut feeling.

I'll try and find the other 2 Evans now - it won't be easy with them both having married a Mary.

Much obliged
