Hi Printer,

Peter Clark and Jessie Alexander were married 9 August 1842 in Stornoway. I believe they also had a daughter Jessie born 1845.

Peter was born in Comrie, Perthshire. I suspect he was related to my gggrandfather, Thomas Clark, and his siblings, James and Janet Clark, all of whom left Comrie and turned up in Stornoway. However, I have not located birth or death records listing Peter's parents.

Nor have I found any record of Peter and his family in Stornoway after the 1871 census. Did they go to New Zealand?

Hello clarkseeker,

The only information I know about Peter & Jessie is what I have posted. However, their son, Peter Alexander Clark is my gt grandfather. In 1876 he arrived in Dunedin, New Zealand. He married Margaret Allan Cunningham McRae (b 1857 Hutchesontown, Glasgow) on 30 March 1878 in Dunedin, NZ and they had 8 children.

I am interested to know more about Thomas and siblings. I would also like to know what you have found regarding Peter and family in 1871 Census.

Look forward to hearing from you again.

Hello, Cousin!

I just searched a little more diligently and found Peter Clark’s death record in Hutchesontown, Glasgow. He died there 16 November 1873 as a result of “congestion of the brain.” He was 64.

Peter’s parents were John Clark, a handloom weaver in Comrie, Perthshire, and Janet/Jessie Mackay. They had at least the following 4 children:

Peter Clark (b. abt. 1809)
Thomas Clark (b. 1816)
James Clark (b. 1818)
Janet Clark (b. abt. 1826)

Please contact me privately for more.

Hi Cousin,

That is fantastic information. Thankyou. I will contact you over weekend, as I am reading this at work. It would seem that after Peter (Snr) died in 1873 my gt grandfather (Peter) must have decided to emigrate to NZ. Coincidence that his future wife should also come from Hutchesontown? I have a photo of my gt grandfather and family that you will probably want to see. I am over the moon. Cheers.

Hello David,

I am at a loss as to why you never received a response, and I do apologise. So sorry.

I am interested in knowing more about (my) Alice Marion Clark who I found had married John O'Shea, in 1876, in Dunedin. They had 10 children.

If you are still interested, please reply. Thank you.

Hello Printer
No need to apologise.

Alice and John's children were:
John O'Shea 1877-1949
Jessie Mary O'Shea 1878-1958
Eliza Agnes O'Shea 1879-1954
Alice Marion O'Shea 1881-1945
Peter Clark O'Shea 1884-1912
Mary O'Shea 1886-1969
Francis Gaffney O'Shea 1889-1890
Thomas O'Shea 1891-1962
Martin Rocke O'Shea 1894-1980
Alexander Paterson O'Shea 1902-1990

My grandfather was their youngest child, Alex O'Shea

My attempts to trace the ancestors of Peter and Jessie have been of limited success. I would be keen to share (such as I have) information about them.

David

Hello David,

I have today discovered that no followup occurred. Events of the past two years overtook me. If you would like to reply to this posting, I can then send a PM to you and we might be able to resume a connection. I am sure that you will be interested in knowing more about the Clark line. Regards.

Printer.
