I've had a look on the National Archives WW1 Campaign medals - if he was out there, he should have one right?

But the Alfred COBBs don't seem to be in Lincolnshire Regiments or in the 10th foot. ???

My mum doesn't think he has a middle name.

Is it possible that during the war he wasn't in the same regiment?

Also, mum thought that he played the "big drum" so his having a bugler badge is a turn-up! (Might explain why my nanna had a bugle though!)

Maybe it's time to get his birth certificate  :-\  It does not look like he has a middle name, but the nearest I can find in an Alfred Cobb born in the last quarter of 1882 the birth district is Southwell, Nottinghamshire.  Could that be him?

That's almost certainly him, at present I have
Alfred COBB B.~1883, Lowdham, Notts (from a census record), and Lowdham is just 6 miles from Southwell.
