Hi Manchester Rambler- can I push my luck & ask if you could possibly look up Kubler (should have an umlaut on the u) in your book?  Family myth says they came from Basel...Rodolph the shoe manufacturer (first half of 19th century)is the guy we're hoping someone will have heard of
Thank you in advance

There are Kübler familes from Schaffhausen and Ossingen (canton of Zürich).  Various "notables" are mentioned, but none in Basel, I'm afraid.  :(

There's also a Kubler family (no umlaut) from Fribourg, and a Kübli family from Saanen (Bern).

The Kübler name probably comes from the job of barrel-maker - Cooper in English.

IGI has a user-submitted record for Rudolf Kuebler (another way of spelling Kübler), who was born in Ossingen in 1820 and married Elisabetha Schwarz in Hunchenstein, Basel in 1849 - could this be your family?

Hi  That was fast - thank you very much for your reply. So far the Kublers have been a  mystery, but now we've got something to work on.  I wonder whether the Basel story began with a photo a cousin has, which has Basel written on the back.  Even if that's where it was taken, it doesn't mean they lived there...
Our Rudolf's son, Charles, was b about 1849, so the Rudolf/Elizabetha marriage is not impossible ...hmmm
Again, many thanks
Best

Hi Rambler

After many years of trying to find my elusive Italian ggrandfather I am not sure if one thing I found is correct, we have always believed he was Italian but on one ship crossing he (thats if its him) has got himself down as Swiss. After futher investigation someone suggested he could have come from canton of Ticino do your books cover that area.

Many thanks Lynne

The book covers all Switzerland - what name are you looking for?

I'm afraid nothing close is showing up for BESSOLO/BOSSOLO, etc - the closest is a Swiss artist called Carlo BOSSOLI (b. 1815).

Sorry not to be more help.   :(
