Cocks of exeter and/or Dawlish C1841
« on: Sunday 09 April 06 09:44 BST (UK) »
Is anyone out there researching the cocks family? I have william cocks, plasterer, and wife amy (sometimes emma) nee Martin, and children marrianne 15, emma 10, william 8, samuel 5, and henry 2, living in exeter in 1841. William died in 1846 aged 41. Henry is my direct ancestor, he married louisa laskey and they later moved to portsmouth.

I am tyring to piece together the cocks family and try and identify williams' parents. From his age at death I can assume that he was born around 1805, and (if the 1841 census is correct) in devon.

His wife amy martin was born in Dawlish, and william and amy married in dawlish in 1827. The parish record of their marriage does not give williams fathers name. There are two entries on the igi of christenings of a william cox and coxe in 1804 and 1806 in dawlish, but there are also many others within 20 miles of exeter!

Does anyone have any cocks info that might relate(!) to this family?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Debbie.
