Hi

I am after a look up for the following family in 1841 please.

Details from 1851 are:
HO107/2214  Folio 270  Page 11
38 Rock Street, Bury

Jonathan Entwistle Head 38 - Tailor & Draper
Martha Entwistle Wife 32 - Tailors Wife
Emma Entwistle Dau 8 - Scholar
Edwin Dean Entwistle Son 6 - Scholar
Martha Jane Entwistle Dau 4 - Scholar
Sarah Entwistle Dau 2
Martha Entwistle Servant Un 15 - Domestic Servant
Joseph Entwistle Apprentice Un 17 - Tailors Apprentice

All born Bury apart from his wife Martha who was born Manchester

I'm pretty sure that Joseph Entwistle is my ggg grandfather, so I am particularly interested to see if  Joseph appears close by with his family or with the above family.  I presume he is related to the above Entwistle family with them having the same Surname.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Best wishes
Steve

Hi Steve

I'm not sure if this will help or not  :-\

1841 census, Bury, Bell Lane
HO 107/538/4 folio 32 pg 6

Jonathan Entwistle; 25; tailor
Joseph do; 25; tailor
William do; 15; lab
Joseph do; 6
All born in county

The ages of the adults have been rounded down to the nearest 5 or 0.

Sadly, the lack of relationships on the 1841 census gives no clue as to whether Joseph aged 6 is the son of either Jonathan or Joseph or a cousin or what  ???

Had a look back for Martha too.

1841 census, Bury, Taylor Street
HO 107/538/2 folio 23 pg 7

Samuel Entwistle; 45; cotton spinner
Hannah do; 45
John do; 15; cotton piecer
Mary do; 14; cotton piecer
Hannah do; 12; cotton piecer
Elizabeth do; 10; cotton winder
Edwin do; 8
Martha do; 6
Arthur do; 3
James Entwistle; 15; labourer
All born in county

The implication is that James is an Entwistle living in the house but not a direct family member?

Thank you very much Sandra. Your time and trouble is very much appreciated.  ;)

Martha looks promising with her family. I was originally thinking that Martha & Joseph were brother & sister but looks like they could have been cousins.

I am going to have to go back to the 1851 and follow these families through to get more information on them, especially in regards to their more exact ages, as you say they rounded down back in 1841.

Anyway, you have certainly given me some more to chew on ;D

Many thanks again Sandra
Best Wishes

Hi Mike

Thank you so much for your message and time. Unfortunately I have since found out that I had been mislead and following an incorrect line. In fact Entwistle family is not part of my family history at this stage.

I guess we all live and learn!

Thanks again though Mike!

Best wishes, Steve

Re Joseph Entwistle, Tailor & Draper, Bury

Hello, I noticed a relevant document on eBay regarding the purchase of property by Joseph Entwistle (Tailor & Draper) in 1863 with lots of banking details, mortgage assignment with the Manchester & District Bank. I would suggest that you tap on Joseph Entwistle in the eBay search engine. Alternatively, let me know should you need the link.
Regards,
Peter
