O'Donovan Rossa
« on: Tuesday 11 April 06 22:08 BST (UK) »
My great great grand mother was supposed to be the neice of Jeremiah O'Donovan Rosa. Her name was Catherine Donovan. I am looking for someone that may have the family tree on the great O'Donovan Rossa?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dan,

There is a liitle information on West Cork Genealogy - not enough I am afraid - but maybe something there will help: http://www.westcorkgenealogy.com. If you do a name search, you will find him.

Family legend has it that I too am related to O'Donovan Rossa, through my Skibbereen Donovan ancestors. I still haven't found the connection.

Good luck in your searching!

Not related to O`Donavon Rossa, but I am related to Asna O`Donavon, leader of 1798 Rebellion in West Cork.  any links anyone?

There are many trees online for Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa
His parents were Denis O'DONOVAN and Ellen DRISCOL(L)
If Catherine DONOVAN was a niece she was the child of one of his siblings, i.e. their other children.
The names for these vary a little on some trees

Do you know when Catherine was born and her parents' names?

Sixteen letters from John O'Donovan to Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa at Skibbereen mainly relating to the history of the O'Donovan family. With two pedigrees or lists pertaining to that family, 1854-1860.

Dublin: National Library of Ireland, Ms. 10,974 (ii)

Jeremiah O'Donovan Rosser was born in the hamlet of Reenescreena, near Leap.  I believe that his family were evicted from Reenescreena and moved to nearby Roscarberry.  I believe that the people that own O'Driscolls Bar, in Reenescreena, are descendants of the great man.  Until recently, I had family in that area.  Hope this helps. I am currently researching my connection To Tadhg an Asna O'Donovan, leader of the 1798 United Irishmen uprising in West Cork.  He is commemorated in a statue in Clonakilty.
