Graceland

What is it you want to say but think you shouldn't?

Surely if you posted a topic about the weather, or even your new hair-do it would be 'on topic' - and I for one would love to see your new hair-do.

Hiya Guys,

If it is in the main forums then it should definitely be related to Family or Local History.  As that is the area where we're dealing with facts, data, or methodologies etc.

In here i.e. the lighter side, then it is a bit more flexible.    I think it should still be related at least loosely to family or local history, so things like oral history, daft stuff we come across or meeting up is great.

My personal thoughts are that there will be only limited storage for archives (Trystan can correct me if I'm wrong) so loads of threads on the weather may take up valuable space?  :-\

Hope this opens the debate..

All the best,
Pam

I think that discussions that in some way relate to Family or Local History are OK,  however loosely,  but this is a Genealogy forum.  Unusual names,  places,  anacdotes that you have come across in the course of your research are all OK.

Members are free to use the chat rooms,  or PM for other things they wish to discuss.

Hi

This is a genealogy forum, and a d a m n good one thanks to the admin, moderators and of course the membership.

On this forum most questions are answered within minutes or at the worst on the same day, unlike other forums where you wait weeks and still dont get a reply - missed questions are chased up by the mods and replies sent out informing the questioner that "at the present moment we do not have anyone with the expertise to answer it, but it will be kept on file till we have" - what other forum does that for its membership?

The success here is that it is based on Family and Local History, with like minded people both asking and answering the questions - I for one would like to keep it that way, but genealogy has a lighter side, and yes, we all need a bit of a laugh or some light relief to break the tension - and that has been catered for with the 'Lighter Side'

We must not lose sight of what this board is all about, therefore anything that does not have a connection (loose or otherwise) with Family or Local History belongs in the chat room; not here on the message boards.

I remain suitably chastized !  The only prob is, finding a time suitable for most of us to chat together in the chat room, especially as the Aussie members are in bed when we are up, and vice versa.....

On the lighter side, the tit bits of gossip which have been irrelevent to family research, has given us all an insight in to each other's personalities, but I agree, it would be much better conducted in the chat room.  Any suggestions as to how we can all meet up at the same time?

I was quite enjoying this as well ... a break from the serious side of family research, which can keep you awake at night (well it does me ... hang on a mo, was Thomas married to Mary or Catherine?), and searching through census that don't have index for folk can take all day sometimes, which gives me a right old headache.  The only problems with email is you can only chat to one person at a time, although I know you can send copies, but it wouldn't be the same.  I wonder what Fitty, Jan, Darcy think?
