Dear Korne

Looks like we're still researching our German immigrant ancestors - yours in SA and mine in NSW.  I'm waiting for a lady to get back to me from SAGs in Sydney re: her research on German bounty immigrants.  Perhaps when she does, I can share some general German research tips [could be a while].  I may post helpful data on this general 'Immigrants Board'.

Just wondering, have you seen this site:-

Makes for some interesting reading.

Dear Genni, Hi.  Thank you.  What a wonderful website link to Hamburg.  Unfortunately two searches yielded no results.  However, I will be checking back with that site once all the data is archived and my year of 1855 is there.

Hello Annie and others who are interested in the Naturalization recordswhich I have been looking for in South Aust.
I phoned the National Archives of Aust branch in Adelaide to arrange a time to look at the papers. As I was able to quote the number required they posted me a photocopy of them -  as I lived in the country.
There was not much information though------
Memorial by an Alien for Naturalization, this was filled out by the applicant and gave his name 'August Wenzel' of 'Adelaide' a native of 'Lautonthal in Prussia' occupation 'Miner' he has resided in SA for 'Three years and a
half'and his signature.

On another page Certified by -'3 signatures'
and the date 2 Aug 1849.

The Certificate of Naturalization contained the information which was on the application  and was dated 20 Aug 1849.

So I  discovered  his ability to write well and
where he came from initially. Every litle bit helps though.     Regards to all Korne
