Finding a French Connection... ?

     Never had to go oversea's before.
            But now have found that might be where to look.

  1881 gives Sarah Nicholls age 41 (b 1840) widow, in the
                                  Sheppey Union Workhouse,
                                     Minster in Sheppey, Kent.
 her birthplace - from Dover, St Mary's Parish, Kent, England.

         with her are Jane Nicholls 12  -Boulogne, France.
                             Charlotte Nicholls 8  -New Cross, Kent.
                         Henry Nicholls 3  -Charlton, Kent. ( My Gt Grandad)

   I cannot find her in 1871. or a possible marriage.
      For any help .. thank you very much already.

Neither Jane nor Nicholls looks French to me - could her parent's have been abroad at the time of her birth. I had one who was born Malta.
It might be worth trying asection in 1837 online which I believe contains British Nationals born overseas.

I would think that if she was born in France her birth would have been registered with the British Consulate and as Gadget said should be on the Overseas Section of 1837.

If the birth was registered in France you will need to contact the Boulogne Archives.

Thanks for your replies Gadget and Geoff.
Went onto the 1837 Consulate births and found a Charlotte but no Jane, that is on the 1881.
                     Where or what is Varna?

This is all completely new to me. I suppose I could write in English to the folks at that addy, Geoff?

The only Varna places I've ever heard of are in Italy and Bulgaria, and multimap says there is also one in Serbia and another in the USA.
