Wonder if anyone can help me re the Census with a gentleman that has popped up in The Times P.O.W. lists.

Rifleman Ernest H. Troxon # B/203442, 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade

He appears in The Times POW List of 23/12/16 and it states Barking. However being completely useless at the Census I was wondering if some kind sole would help me here to enable a few loose ends to be tied up.

That's certainly a mystery surname Andy

I did wonder about the "spelling" but see he's in the medal rolls too

Aha Casalguidi,
One step ahead of you, checked the medal rolls before posting because of the name, Ernest Howard by the way, he appears in WO329-1718 page B1727. The B/200000 + indicate transfered from the Training Reserve but cannot find him in the TR  definetely in WO329-1718 though.

andy,i get this all the time,i have just found a bloke who was supposed to be called james choss,manchester regt,these details were sent in by his family,theres no such man,it turns out that his name is cross,its probably a mistranscription[wow thats a big word for me] cas or one of the gang will probably find him for you,they luv a challenge,mack

Hi Mack,
Too true about the spellings, have pulled a lot of hair out before now looking through the MIC's. Record to date is 6 MIC's for the same man, no record on the NA search engine so had to do it manually. Makes you wonder about the MIC's at times.
Re Troxon, all Regimental data states that spelling but one has too wonder about the wonders of the transcription which was after all done after the war, but in this case the MIC and Medal Rolls give the same name and number spelt this particular way.
Gone through all the variations in this case but coming up with zero, I was hoping that the Census would confirm.

theres a lad in the manchester regt who had an unusual name,i couldnt find him anywhere in the census,turns out he was born in san antonio,his mum came over to manchester to work at the deaf and dumb school in manchester just before the war,he may have come over from canada,oz or NZ,or even the states,mack

When you say Barking ..... was he born there - live there or enlist there ?
by any chance do you have his next of kin ?   or age ?

Hi Annie,
The only clue as to the whereabouts of this man is in the Times list of POW's of Saturday 23/12/16 where it gives his regimental details and in brackets (Barking E.). One can only presume that is Barking, Essex, East London.
No record survives unfortunately in the WO series, sorry to have so little on him, hence the problem tie-ing up the loose ends.
