year?

Any ideas of the year of this picture? I think my mum said it was 1905. Does the fashion fit the year?

Cheers,

Kris.

I'm no expert,  but personally, I'd say it was older than that. About 1890?? Purely judging by the fashion.

No good asking me, my wife says I have the fashion sense of ...., on second thoughts, we won't go into that !

There is a thread here on dating old photos:
http://www.rootschat.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=14091.msg23883#msg23883
with 6 different links which could help

the last one looks especially interesting: http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/costhistpage.htm

it also supplied a link to: http://www.cartes.freeuk.com/time/date.htm with lots of photos to compare.

good luck !

I'd say 1905 is right, I've had to do quite a bit of reading on costume for a course I'm doing and it does look like classic Edwardian dress.

Cool. Thanks for all of the info. It's difficult to tell how old she is in the picture. If it was 1905, then she is 16-17yrs old, but with teenagers dressing the same way as their parents she could easily pass for 20-30 yrs.

I had a look at the dating clothes type pages. They all look the same to me! Must be very subtle changes through the years.

Wouldn't it be great if women started to dress like that again?

Kris.

Take a look at the woman seated on the left of the picture.   I reckon she's got a bottle of gin under that skirt!
