Hi Moobean

You have come to the right place!

Have a read of the Beginners Board on Rootschat:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,47.0.html

Than have a look around generally and in the counties you are interested in to see what resources are available.

With Welsh names it is usually a good idea to confirm you have the right people by buying certificates!  However you can get yourself off to a good start by talking to any living relatives who are willing.  Try getting out any old photos or documents, sometimes it will prompt discussion and people remember more than they thought they could!

You will need to make use of Birth Marriage & Death indexes (BMDs).  These are currently available to search free at Ancestry:

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

(Choose the top set of complete indexes)

Births registered after Sep 1911 also record the mother's maiden name, so that will help.

You can also try electoral registers (in libraries) and burial records if you have an idea of where to look.

If you have any further specific questions don;t be afraid to ask & Rootschatters will do their best to help!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi moobean,

I think that I might have a bit of information about this family as I think that they might be relatives of mine.
My grandmother was called Esther Williams.
She was born in Port Dinorwic in 1896 (so she might not be the same person as your list gives the date 1898).
Her father was William Pugh Williams.
Her mother was Margaret Williams.

Regards,
djashby
