1841-1871 Census Lookups please HANSFORD family, Dorset
« on: Saturday 22 April 06 04:12 BST (UK) »
Hi.  I've just discovered that my grandfather's grandmother came from Dorset.  Her name was Elizabeth HANSFORD born 1852 Dorset.  Her parents names were Alfred HANSFORD and unknown unknown.  No siblings known of at this stage.

Extra info - Elizabeth married 16 May 1875 Westminster groom Ernest Friedrich August JAHN or JANUS.

Three children from marriage: Louise 1876, Mary 1879 and Annie JAHN 1880 all born London, England.

Any details gleaned whatsoever will be gratefully appreciated.

Keen genealogist downunder.  Allycat.

Hi Allycat,

I'm having trouble identifying her on previous census records so far but this looks good for the marriage:
June quarter 1875
Westminster registration district
Elizabeth Hansford - Ernst Jahn
Volume 1a page 811

Dear Tanja - wow, you're quick.  That's most definitely them.  My English relations who are descendants of the Woodcocks/Jahns spell our gg grandfather's christian name that way - Ernst instead of Ernest.

Any more info would be great if you can manage it.  Thanks.  Allycat.  ;D

Dear Tati/Tanja, Your right, that could be my ancestor's family alright.  I actually have no proof of her birth in Dorset, this was supplied to me by my rellies in England.

Thank you very very much.  I sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Alison.

Dear Allibaker, Hi.  I'm totally confused.  I have never seen those two children's names before.  Are you saying that there is an Emily Jahn and Ellen Jahn born to parents Ernst Jahn and Elizabeth Hansford?

If so, these are two totally new people that neither myself in Qld, Australia nor three branches of our combined Woodcock / Jahn / Hansford tree in England know about!   :-\

All we had in our tree/s this past 30 odd years or so has been three children's names - Louise Jahn b1876, Mary Jahn b1879 and Annie Elizabeth Jahn b1880 my g.grandmother.  Definitely all from Westminster area though.

Can you confirm this?
