1841 Look Up Please - Edward Reynolds-COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Saturday 22 April 06 13:21 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping that someone might be able to find Edward REYNOLDS for me on the 1841 census. He was born in Huntingdonshire (Little Paxton) c.1822. In 1851 (aged 29) he was living at Paxton Hall.

Many thanks,

Mick  :)

No joy I'm afraid

There was only one Edward Reynold(s) in Hunts but he is much too young
A search using Edw* and Paxton drew a blank, but this is only of any use if he's living in Hunts
A nationwide Edward Reynold(s) born 1820-28 threw up a few people who were not born in the county in which they were living, but no-one obvious eg a private in the army, another in Chatham barracks, a mariner in Liverpool.

Apart from Richard do you know of any other family members, which might help to narrow it down?

Regards

David

Hi David,

Unfortunately not, Richard is the only sibling that I'm aware of. Their father Lawrence died c.1838, and as yet, I'm not sure who their mother was, so all in all, I'm up the proverbial creek! although rather frustratingly, I've learned that a wall in the chancel of Little Paxton church is dedicated to the Reynolds family but can I find a transcription?! ::)

There is very little online about the family, which is suprising as they were prominent landowners and owned the manors of Little Paxton,Hail Weston and Eaton Socon for at least 150 years and were descended from the Bishop of Lincoln. By 1920 there was no member of the Reynolds family left to take over the manor (the last one being killed in WW1) and all of the land was sold off to the highest bidder :-\.

Anyway, I digress, thankyou very much for taking the time to look for Edward and for doing a wider search for him, it's much appreciated.

Regards,

Mick :)

Hi Mick,

This won't help with 1841 but the IGI has a member-submitted  :-\ record for this family stating his mother was Mary (and another member submitted marriage between a Lawrence Reynolds and a Mary Cole - this marriage also figues in Pallot's marriage index).

Also in 1851, he is staying with his brother Richard A age 43 b. Hunts Stirtloe? Buckden?

Not much help but I thought I'd throw it in  :P

On the contrary Tanja, it's a great help!

Having never found anyone I was searching for on the IGI,I didn't even think of looking :-[. It does look likely that Mary Cole/Reynolds was the mother of Edward and Richard.

Thanks very much for all your help,

Mick :)

I can see brother Richard already at Paxton House in 1841. Only 2 other people in the household: 2 female servants.
