1841 census look up please

This is my only chance of catching this gentleman on any census.  I am hoping somebody may be able to help.

Thomas R. Gibson b. 1803, possibly born in Northumberland.  He marries in 1842 in Durham (Jarrow).  Residence at time of marriage is 'South Shields'. He is a Master Mariner and is away for the 1851 census.  He then dies on the 'high seas' in 1852.  If it helps his father is also called Thomas and also a Master Mariner.  I believe his mother is called Isabella.  Although at 40ish, it seems unlikely he would be at home.  As a seaman, he could be in any port, or possibly away again.

I would like to pin Thomas down on a census if I possibly can.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello KA,

Would your man be Thomas REED Gibson? If so, I see a mention of him being briefly master of the new 272 ton brig DERWENT, Official Number 2013, built Sunderland 1847. Sorry, I can't help with the census.

Not sure if this is correct  There are two possibles in Northumberland

Tynemouth  b 1801- one is a keelman  HO107  825/10/34

Another living also Tynmouth b 1801  Sailor - living next to Josiah Gibson (10 years older) master Mariner - HO107  826/1/33 


There is a third b 1804 but he's a blacksmith so I discounted him.

Hope I am not leading you up the garden path.

Looks as if you can discount the 1841 finds then - (although sometimes the ages are out in that census).

A lot of Gibson master mariners in the area. Could Thomas (pere) be one of these:
 - Thomas WRIGHT Gibson?
 - Thomas MILLINGS or WILLINGS Gibson?
 - Thomas CUMMINGS Gibson?

Any relation to James Gibson, butcher of North Shields?

If yes to any of these, I could have a bit more for you.

According to a Tree Thomas Wright Gibson was born c 1836 Ireland
From Records on Anc. he Married Jane LEMON 1864 in Australia and died 1917 in NZ age 81.
