Lebon family Quebec

I found yesterday on 1911 census the Lebon family I have been searching for some time.
Head Elzear age 34,wife Albertine 32,Gabrielle 9,Alpha 7,Rene 5,Simone 3 and Marguerite age 1,also know of another child born after 1911 Albert born 1915.There could be other children between 1911 and 1915.
What I would like to know is where can I find out if these children above married and had family?.
When did they come to Canada?
What I have written above is all the information I have on the Lebon family.

Well, according to the original census record (in Verdun), they were all b. in Quebec.  Verdun is considered a suburb of Montreal and they're in the Lovell's directories online:

For example 1911/1912 Elzear is listed as a boilermaker.  Ten years later he's still about, and 20 years later.  By 1941 there's two Le Bons listed as the same address; Elzear, a boilermaker/metal welder, and Gerard, labourer - possible son/sibling?

By 1951 Elzear has disappeared; there's an entry for a Rene LeBon though.  I checked back - 1943 both Elzear and Gerard are at the same address and are metal welders, 1945 neither are there but Rene is, 1944 Elzear is listed but not Gerard and Rene appears for the first time.

So Elzear was in the area until 1944, after which he either moved away or had died.

looking at the 1881, not a lot of Lebon in Quebec, and no Elzear...No listing for him in the 1901...although he may have been using his middle name, I suppose.

In case this may be an ancestor, an Adelbert Lebon passenger record can be found here... ( put in surname and hit image on top of second page.

Thanks for you replies to my emails,I seem to be stuck on getting any futher with my research on the Lebon family.Where would I look for more information,It seems if you live in other parts of Canada there seems to be more info on people.

Hi Maralyn,

I understand your frustration!  I think that it is not a case of there being less records, but more a case of not many people here on rootschat having links to Quebec, and so we are just not as familiar with what's out there.  In Canada, BMD records are under provincial jurisdiction, so each province has their own system. 

I can't view the 1911 census from this computer (automatedgenealogy blocked by firewall), so I can't view your family's entry.  Does it say they are Catholic?  And I am assuming that they are in fact francophone, given their names.   What is your connection to the family?  Is there one member that you are particularly interested in?

I don't know if you will be able to find BMD info for your family beyond the 1911 census - most of that is probably not public yet.  (It is not like England where anyone can search the BMD indexes right up to the current generation - in Canada most provinces restrict public access to records that are less than 90-100 years old - the specific rule varies by province). 

Also, Quebec seems to operate more on church records.  I can't find any site that says that civil registrations are available to the public.

Hi there,

Sorry, I don't know much about Quebec genealogy, but someone else maybe able to confirm this, I don't think woman legally change their name when they get married in Quebec, they have to keep their maiden name.
