Hi there

You didn't give any clues as to when they were in Kirkcudbrightshire or whether Milnburn was in the shire or actually in the parish of Kirkcudbright (based on the town)

I looked on old-maps.co.uk and checked the 1850's map of the area. I scrolled across 2-3 miles each way and could not find a Milnburn.
Perhaps someone from that area will see your post and recognize the name!!  :)  :)
Perhaps the census for the area would give a more accurate address.

Sorry I couldn't help more

To help you narrow things down further, this is a link to a map of the Kirkcudbright
Parishes:
www.scotlandsfamily.com/parish-map-wigtown.htm
Normally the name of the Parish/County is shown on the death cert. so hopefully this can help you pin-point further where Milnburn is.

I can see Milburn in a list of places on Death Registers from the OPRs on the following site:
www.old-kirkcudbright.net/genealogy/oprDeaths/1826-28.asp. Great site this one by the way if you are researching in Kirkcudbright.

Regards.

Thanks for that Kirkcudbright site Monica
I hadn't found it myself.

I have found what I think is Milnburn or possibly Millburn on the 1854 map.
High Street (the South part) meets Castle Street. The next road East is St Mary's Street, then further east is Old Mil(l or n?)burn Road which leads north to join the East end of St Cuthbert street leading to Shilling Hill and the Kirkcudbright Mill. The houses are mainly up at the Mill end of the road.
The old-maps site was kind and allowed me full magnification the second time.

Most of my ancestors lived outside the town Borgue, Crossmichael, Buittle however this one was specific John Wilson died 3rd August 1833 in Millburn. After your help and reasoning it's easy to locate infact there still is a Millburn St where the Old Road was.
