Tony Daly at Coastguards proved invaluable in helping trace some of my McCullen coastguards and gave details of postings and census records. Worth contacting Tony to see if he has any info about your coastguards. What were their names?

The National Archives had my Gt Grandfathers service record :

This shows him as being on the HMS Iron Duke which collided with and sunk HMS Vanguard in 1875.

James McCullen had been on the Vanguard

Hello Johnny,

Firstly apologies for delay in getting back to you... I have been off the computer ill for some time...

My hubby's coastguards were Courtneys...  Daniel Courtney and Jeramiah Courtney... in fact the family were connected to the sea way back... not just the above two...

All the births of the next generation were at different coast guard stations around the coast of Ireland.
