Matier's Salvation Army Dee Street Corps. Belfast
« on: Monday 01 May 06 13:46 BST (UK) »
Trying to source on the Matier family formerly of 62 Island Street, and also 7 Derwent Street, Belfast.  I already have the following information:-
Thomas Matier died 1946 in Tring England aged 85
Mary Matier nee Johnston
1st Daughter Jane born 1884 died May 1967 in Tring England - retired Salvation Army Major.
2nd Daughter Annie (my grandmother) born Aug1888 died Feb 1916 married to Henry, Edgar, Knox, Wilkins.

I have already received some help from the
Salvation Army International Heritage Centre.

I am sure that Jane and Annie had other siblings but have no information on this.

Can anyone help?

Are you still looking?
My grandfather was Jeremiah (jerry) Matier, brother to Jane, Katherine and Rebecca (becky).
Let me know,
Kimberly JANE Matier

Hi Kimberly, Thanks for your reply.  Since my previous correspondence in 2006 I have been able to establish that Thomas and Mary Matier nee Johnston had 6 children born alive out of 10 births: Jane, Annie, Jeremiah, Agnes, Catherine, and Rebecca. I got this information from the 1911 census. I would obviously be interested in any further information you could add.  Or is there anything you want to ask me?

Kate

8. Mary (6 Mar.1896)

10. Rebecca (11 Sept.1901)

Note: marriage should have read 1883 not 1881 so I've corrected the typo here

Hi all,

I thought I'd posted a reply a while ago but it hasn't appeared so apologies if it appears twice.

Thank you for your replies and information.

I have most of the information you have posted - acquired in my case mostly from UHF and the Census. As an amateur I'd be interested to learn the sources you more experienced researchers are using please.

aghadowey - I wasn't aware of (2) Andrew or (3) John born between Jane and Ann(ie) - it would appear they were twins and both died young as they don't appear on the 1901 Census?

Also the three Marys? Is it reasonable to assume (7) was the death of (5) and (8) could be Agnes Mary or Mary Agnes as an Agnes (5 yrs) appears in the 1901 Census. The dates you have given are mostly births are they?

Thanks again.

Kate.
