Bowden in Kilkenny
« on: Wednesday 03 May 06 13:41 BST (UK) »
My great-great-grandmother Anne Marie Bowden was born in Ireland some time between 1822 and 1830. Family word of mouth says she was from Drogheda in Louth, but I've never found any record of her or her family there. She was married at St Peters in Dublin in 1847, but again I've never found a record of her birth in Dublin. If I search the Griffiths Valuation Index it shows that by far the most Bowden people in Ireland then were in Kilkenny.

Is there anyone researching a Bowden family in Kilkenny? Anne's father was James Bowden, a farmer. That's all I know. Any help would be very appreciated.

Audrey,

Yes that's the marriage. I have a copy of the certificate. It was according to the rites and ceremonies of the United Church of England and Ireland. Witnesses at the marriage were William Hutchinson and Elizabeth Worthington - both English-sounding names. Can I assume that the faith of Anne and Joseph wasn't Catholic? Anne and Joseph had their first child in Sheffield, England in Sep 1848 - so they must have left Ireland pretty soon after the marriage.

Have you an interest in the Bowden (Boden) family?

Thank you,
Simon

Audrey,

You found several Boden marriages with a father James?! Can you give me any details?

Anne Marie Boden was described as being of full age when she married in Dublin in 1847. That means she was born about 1826. But later census records in England suggest it was 1822, whilst her death certificate suggests 1830.

Thanks for your help,
Simon

Audrey,

I've corresponded with Jean McCarthy before and we have different Boden families completely. I thought I'd try here. The only thing I can think of is that Anne was James's only child and that James too was an only child and that's why no-one else is researching the family.

Thanks for trying,
Simon

I wonder if this is the St Peter's in which Anne Marie was married ???
It is at Phibsboro, Dublin and was built in 1827 :D.
