Hi Hilary,

Both Lower Fold and Spotland are areas of Rochdale.  Lower Fold is north of the town centre and Spotland is west of the town centre.

Have you looked at the old maps site?

http://www.old-maps.co.uk

Spotland Bridge is marked on the current OS map (see the streetmap site:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk

Lower Fold is not however marked but it is between Shawclough and Broadley.

I would expect baptisms to have taken place in Rochdale, but it depends what date.

Nell

Probably the nearest church to Spotland Bridge would have been St Clements, Falinge, built 1835, or St Edmunds, but that wasn't built till 1873.  Have you tried contacting Rochdale Local Studies?
http://www.rochdale.gov.uk/Living/Libraries.asp?URL=local
They are very helpful and have plenty of information.

The Lancs Online Parish Clerk will give you baptisms at St Chad's (Rochdale Parish Church) up to the early 1800s.
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Rochdale/index.html

Have a look at the Genuki Rochdale page for other churches.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Rochdale/

You will also find there a reference to Dave Ollerton’s
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Rochdale/
which lists many of the gravestones in Rochdale cemetery.

Hope some of this helps.

Gillg  ;)
