Upwell Baptism request William COPE 1857

Hello,

I am looking for the baptism of my gt gt gt grandfather WILLIAM COPE in Upwell in 1857.

His birth is registered in Apl/May/June 1857, transcribed as William Parker Cope in Upwell, Cambridgeshire. (from freebmd).

Can anyone help?

Thank you for the census information - that is definately him.

He must have got Baptised outside of Cambridgeshire.  I haven't been able to find him in the 1861 census either.

have you tried looking in Norfolk ??

I have certs. and census info. from 'my Breeze lot' in Upwell - sometimes it's in Norfolk, sometimes in Cambridge.

As luck would have it, I am carry out a search for Upwell this afternoon, Tuesday 9th. May.  If I have some spare time, I will carry out a search for your Cope, but I may have to carry it out at a later date, as the records I will be searching today are for 1776, so the staff may not be able to locate the records today.

I will let you know the results later.

Just looked at the original birth indexes on Ancestry and think the original entry looks Like William Porter Cope not Parker?birth  1857.This would make the 1861 entry correct and not mistranscribed .Also heres i believe  his parents marriage William Cope To Ann Porter in Qtr Dec 1855 in Downham.So Porter is his mothers maiden name.This would make sense.Best Wishes Welsh Lady

I had been stuck on that one for some time.

I had found a wedding in the 1870's for William Porter Cope in London, but had discounted it because of the fact that it was Porter not Parker.

Thanks also for finding his parents wedding - I have so much to go on now.

One last question - do you know what Hunts is short for?

Hi Christine

I had a chance to check out  the Upwell parish Records, but the museum informed me that the one you needed was kept at the March Registry Office, a number for which I cannot find, but, Fenland District Council on 01354 654321 may be able to help.  The office recently moved from Wisbech to March.
