My great-great-uncle Arthur INGRAM, WW1
« on: Saturday 06 May 06 10:22 BST (UK) »
Hello friends  :)
My great-grandmother's brother, Arthur St John INGRAM, was killed in WW1 while serving in France.  I have this information (below) from SDGW database, and also have his medal card (attached).

I would like to know whether it's possible to find out what his unit was doing on the day that he was killed, and possibly also how he died (although I know that the chances of his service record surviving would be very slim).

Can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks so much  :)

Hello again,
I've also got this copy of a letter held by my cousin Cal241 - it was written we think to Arthur's aunt Matilda who lived in Croydon, Surrey.  I believe she would have been listed as his NOK.

there should be a war diary which will tell you what was going on in the battalion that day, but the chance of whether it will detail the death of an OR is very slim

the diary will be available at Kew, but i would have thought a post to the GWF would be worthwhile to see if anyone has a copy and can let you have details

good luck
