Hello,

Thankyou for the link Jan,

Regarding the name Sandys that you mention, there is a marriage on the IGI of a Peter BETSWORTH to Sandys WORSLEY  14 Jul 1698, Hartley Mauditt, Hampshire. (I think she is the daughter of Sir James WORSLEY)

I realise that this is a 'shot in the dark', but if John was originally from Hampshire, got married around the same time, and named his daughter Sandys, then I couldn't help but wonder if they were connected, brother? cousin?

Regards
Daisy

I'm a bit late coming to this post, but if you're still struggling please note that the border between Sussex and Hampshire moved (can't remember exactly when). My Bettesworth ancestors came originally from Westbourne which was in West Sussex, but the line moved making it Westbourne, Hampshire. This could be why the area on the documents changed. Hope this isn't too late to help.

I was just going to post that Westbourne is in West Sussex.  However it's postal address is Westbourne, Emsworth, Hampshire - very confusing!

From my research there are three lines of Bettesworth families. One is my own which started in Westbourne, Sussex (now Hampshire) and expanded (more like exploded) in Hayling Island outside of Portsmouth. The second is from the Catherington and London area but we believe there is a connection between the two families, just haven't gone back far enough yet.
In Torquay in Devon there is a Bettesworth family who own a real estate agents and one of the ladies who married into it is an artist who advertises on Facebook. I can't find any connection to the first two, but the Devon family might be the one where you'll find more about your ancestor. John is a very common name in my Bettesworth family there are loads of them! Good luck!
