Newnan family / Trim
« on: Monday 08 May 06 20:32 BST (UK) »
Would love to hear from anybody who comes across this family from Trim.
I have Rosanna Newnan b. 1829 Trim who married James Forde in 1855 in Australia after she emigrated with her brother Neville Preston Newnan b. 1833 Trim and sister Julia Therese b.1835 Trim
They were the children of Neville Preston Newnan and Julia Duigan.

Are you sure the surname was Newnan. And not Newman?? Because when one does a search of the 1901 census of Ireland there are over 1000 with the name Newman but only 1 with the name Newnan. Perhaps some immigration clerk mis read a  document and the wrong spelling was used from then on .and quite a few of the Newman's lived closer to Trim.

Also you may have looked at Griffiths Valuation on the free site askaboutireland.ie where if you search for Newman and in County Meath you will have found 3 entries for Neville P Newman, as a tenant of 8 acres of common land and subletting a house ... the printing date of this valuation is about 1854

As his early life would have predated any civil birth marriage and death registration in Ireland it will be necessary to look in Church records for any info ... do you know  what religion the family were ? Catholic? Protestant ? Which Denomination?
Every little bit of information helps narrow the search
