Hello Sall.

While I'm familiar with researching the New Zealand historic newspapers, I'm not with the UK ones.

Yesterday I had library access, so tried for a quick look into UK ones. Found one that may be your man H. RUDGE.

CITIZEN of Gloucester. 4/3/1921. H. RUDGE in a game on the Athletic Ground between Cheltenham and Strattford-on-Avon.

There were other mentiones at Yeovil Middlesex, but nothing that I found that appeared to be of a team who's successful year, warrented a studio team photo.

"Invicta" seems a credible second part of a name for a football club of the era.I can't currently find any evidence for an Arsenal Invicta team, though there is such a supporters group named after The Invicta Ground where the Royal? or Woolwich? Arsenal played at that time.

Regards
Roger

I have been through the following and found nothing to match "AI" initials, though it does throw up "Imperial" and "Ironworks" as second name alternatives

This is actually the First XI of the Army Intelligence Corps. Legendary team that won the English AND French league + 2 Carabo Cups... in 1 season.

Unfortunately for them, their success was classified and the team became the stuff of legend.

How interesting.

Explains why a team went to the trouble, to get such a good team photo, but little evidence of their success was to be found.
