Isn't that what Hack said? (And he'd read the surname as BOW from the scan but the FreeBMD entry gave it as HOW.)
Anecestry has an Eliza Thompson Bennett marrying a Skinner How in the Sep quarter 1838.
Perhaps she crossed out the Eliza in recognition that she was now Mrs S[Skinner] How? ...
IGI has Skinner
ROW married Eliza Thompson BENNETT, 8 Aug 1838, Saint Andrew by the Wardrobe, London.
IGI has Skinner ROW b 24 Jan, bap 1 Mar 1803, St James Garlickhithe London, parents William ROW and Ann.
The same church has to parents of those names a William in 1800 and an Ann in 1801.
FreeBMD has the death of Eliza Thompson ROW, age 64, Dec qtr 1874, Kensington, Vol 1a, page 77.
The widowed Skinner ROW is in London in the 1881 census on FamilySearch, a 78yo Fur Hide and Skin Broker with two servants.
FreeBMD has the death of a Skinner ROW, age 80, Jun qtr 1883, Kensington, Vol 1a, page 71.
So it looks as though the name is ROW (and note that the 'B' in BENNETT has a curl at the end of the letter and is separate from the following letter whereas the 'R' in ROW does not have a curl and is connected to the following letter). So it seems that it originally read 'Eliza J BENNETT' and then 'Eliza' was scored through and 'Mrs' written above, and the 'J' was overwritten with an 'S', making it Mrs S ROW.
