WW1 Air Services
« on: Wednesday 24 May 06 12:03 BST (UK) »
I recently heard from a relative that her grandmother was in the Air Force stationed in Norfolk during WW1. I understood that the Royal Flying Corps was founded in 1917. Does anyone have any information about any air services in existence before then, if indeed they did exist?

Thanks in advance - any info would be useful.

Hi Linna

According to the National Archives, the Royal Flying Corps was founded in 1912 and the Royal Naval Air Service was founded in 1914.  They were merged to become the Royal Air Force in 1918 see http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=60
