i also found a rellie on freebmd with mothers name listed for a birth in 1911

Glad to hear that FreeBMD is going further into the 20th century. Trying to track down marriages for people who were children on the 1901 census is otherwise exceedingly tedious. And even when you find one (if it exists) tracking down the children is another long job.

As the indexes are printed rather than handwritten like the early ones, I wonder if the information could be scanned and read automatically? Even the OCR programs they give away with scanners are pretty good these days. Anybody know if it's feasible?

I know there has been a lot of discussion about this on the FreeBMD transcribers list.  As far as I am aware they decided that the amount of errors that would occur didn't warrant doing it.
