WOOF(E) Cardington
« on: Saturday 27 May 06 07:54 BST (UK) »
Old family letters to my Gt grandfather WOOFE in Australia tell about his 2nd cousin Richard WOOF of the Cardington family.
I am looking for the Birth and parents of William WOOF b 1780. He is not the William b 1780 son of Phillip and Ann Woofe.
Would be grateful to hear from anyone with WOOF connections.!!

Hi Janmac,
I don't know if we could be connected ??? But my gg-grandfather was a William Woof, but he was born around 1853 in Newcastle -On-Tyne, Northumberland.... he was christened in Gateshead. Durham.

William's father's name was Peter Woof & mother Ann Wilson.....Peter's second wife was Ann Cochrane.

William came to Australia in the 1870's and was in Townsville, Queensland were he married Adelaide Bowen in 1878. They moved down to Gympie, then on to Sydney where they raised their 8 children.

I would be really interested to know if our families are connected. ;D

Hope to hear from you. :)
Cheers,
Corsharn

Thanks for your reply
I have noticed that there are WOOF's in Durham etc but have not found a connection as yet.
On the census for Montgomeryshire where he farmed my 2x Gt Grandfather William WOOF states that he was born in Bitterley Shropshire. (1780) His son John WOOFE went to Ballarat c 1851.I have never found a baptism in Bitterley so have no idea who William's parents were.Have you seen a William around 1780 in your research.? Would be good to connect. Not many of us in NZ.
Jan

If you can give me a couple of days to go through my files I'll see if I can find anything for Woof's in Victoria. :)

Thanks again
I think I have most of the Victoria data.
My father Thomas John WOOFE was born in Chiltern 1906 and emigrated with his family to NZ 1908.
His father was William WOOFE b1880 Vic.
The only family member I haven't found in Aus.is Percy Herbert WOOFE b 1875 Ballarat.  F John WOOFE m Elizabeth BOWKER
Last heard of in Gooramadda 1903.
Would welcome any sighting of his death etc.
I think the Preston family are another WOOF . The Percy from London looks interesting !
WOOFS everywhere !!!
Thanks
Jan

Bit late but any use?  I have a William Woof of Cardington whose parents were Philip (c1741) and MARY PERRY (c1758)

His brothers were Philip (1782) and Richard(1786) and he married Cecily Milner then Ann Cox.

There's more but no point going on if this isn't the one you're after

Thanks Kait
I have looked at this possibility but my William WOOFE married Eleanor SMALLMAN in Munslow 1818.
However I'm sure we are connected to the Cardington families somehow.Old letters talk about "Richard Woof our 2nd cousin."
Do you fit in here somewhere ?
