Looking for a birth in Scotland of Hugh CAIN circa 1852. His father was a Thomas CAIN.

1854 was the start of statutory registration but most parish records are in fairly good shape by the 1850's and you can search them through the website above - though it is pay per view.

This may give you a handle on where in Scotland he was born which will let you get access to the census.
