TITANIC Passenger/Crew Biographies
« Reply #27 on: Saturday 03 June 06 18:00 BST (UK) »
Here's an interesting link to a site (appears to be a work in progress) with detailed biographical information of (some) Titanic passengers and crew members. Includes census info and photographs.

Remind me never to go on a cruise if there's a Violet Jessop on board!   ;)

Article from my FH notes;

Mary Ellen, Benny and their sons left England in 1912 to come to Canada. They had sailed shortly after the Titanic and I can recall the stories they always told about seeing debris and bodies floating in the ocean as they neared North America. Lawrence was only 12 when they sailed but he talked about it all his life. They settled in Toronto, Ontario. I did not know Uncle Benny as he died before I was born but I knew Auntie Mary Ellen and I used to go and spend holidays with Lawrence and Doris (his second wife)....Cousin Wanda

Not nice but historical fact so the note stays.

No Titanic/Britannic connections, but my husband's Uncle Jack Hill sailed on HMS Celtic which arrived at Ellis Island, NY, on 20 April 1912 - so the ship must have been very close behind the Titanic.  Uncle Jack was only 19, going to seek his fortune in the US.....we think he ended up in Iowa.....

Any Iowa Hills out there?!!   :)

I have a article that says that  the Mackay-Bennett recovered 306 bodies.
116 of these were buried at sea.

Does anyone why some were buried at sea and others taken to Halifax, Nova Scotia for burial?

My 2nd cousin's wife's great uncles was one of the sailors who were rowing the life boats. She has a postcard from him written to hisparents saying he was well and safe. She also had a copy of the inquest leaflet naming him and the people in the life boat

Does that count?
