Family gossip has it that Titanic 2nd mate Lightowlers is related to the Lightowler side of my family. He survived gave evidence and went on to take his yacht 'Sundowner' over to Dunkirk to rescue soldiers from the beaches, that was in his retirement.
I would love to find the link.
Hi, I have been told by my father that Charles Lightoller (2nd Off-Titanic) was my great uncle. My grandfathers name was Frank Whitteron Lightoller, who went on to marry Moira Dorothea Hannen. I am trying to trace my family on fathers side, but it's alot harder than I thought. Any feedback/help would be great. Thanks.

The other sister ship was the Olympic  all three ships were in accidents.,

Lightowler came from If think Chorley in Lancashire.

A lot of artefacts were taken frrom the vessell by Ballard and  salvagers.   That was in effect a grave for the passengers that died on it.

There was another ship not many people know about and it is the Empress of Ireland. which was almost as bad as Titanic but doesn't  get mentioned.

I am related to at least 2 members of the Titanics crew.
Frederick Fleet...the lookout who spotted and reported the iceberg..and Able Seaman - Joseph Scarrott.

I may even be related to two more crew members, William Sivier & Bertie Wilson...both barman I think....neither survived....but both Frederick & Joseph did....both giving evidence at the enquiry.

Frederick Fleet commited suicide by hanging in 1965 after his wife died in Dec 1964..He became very depresed after her passing. His brother in law threw him out of his home to add to his woes. So Fred hung himself in his brother in laws back garden from the clothes pole.

He was buried in a paupers grave in Southampton, and until recently he didn't have a headstone. But the kind folks of the Titanic Society brought and payed for one which carries a picture of the Titanic.

Freds grt grandmother, Alice Wilson, was the sister of my grt grt grandfather William.

My husband had 2 relatives on the Titanic:
1. Arthur (Archie) Barratt, aged 15 yrs, bellboy - he was his father's first cousin son of Margaret Black & Arthur Barratt
2. Herbert Hensford, butcher -he was my husband's great aunt's husband, her name was Alice Beck, they were only married a couple of weeks before the Titanic set sail, and when we met her in 1968 she had been a widow for 56 years.

Arthur (Archie) Baratt was my Dad's uncle. (My Dad, Keith Churcher is the son of Bessie Barratt - who was Archie's sister).
