1881/1891 lookup Lancashire

HOUGHTON FAMILY

Can anybody help me find a family, In the 1901 Census they were living at 50 Pryme Street, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire.  They were Head Charlotte Houghton (33 years), Son John Houghton (9 years), Son William H. Houghton (1 year).  I know there are at least 2 more daughters Martha and Nellie inbetween John and William who we think were put in orphanages.  Charlottes husband was John Houghton, but can't seem to find out what happend to him.  I know from Son William Henry Houghtons birth certificate that his father was a Private 2nd Battalion Manchester regiment.

Charlottes Maiden name is given on birth certificate as Charlotte Ann Eastow

John junior was born in Ireland in 1892 according to the 1901 census, which may explain why we can't find Charlotte on the 1891 census. I will take a look at the 1881 for you.

Its really bizarre this one, no sign on the 1881 census either. So being the clever person that I am I went and looked for her as Eastow on the 1871 census, this appears to be a very rare name (always good) until of course you can't find who you want! Only one Eastow and shes from Kent, Charlotte's place of birth being stated as Manchester.
Decided to work forward birth approx 1868 not an Eastow in site

Hi Libby,

Thanks for your help, I noticed the Ireland on the 1901 Census, there was an old part of Hulme, Manchester called Little Ireland (Irish immigrants) so there could be a link to Ireland.

Suggest you try alternative spellings - Eastaugh, Eastoe, Easto and Easter, to start with. Also often transcribed wrongly (due to handwriting) as Easton.

Don't know if you're still looking, but in 1896 Charlotte Ann Easton married Doctor John Houghton
