Pelham Family

I do hope someone out there can help me before I tear my hair out!

I am searching for info on my ancestor Charlotte Pelham. According to someone who has submitted info on the family on the LDS site she was born in Easton, Sussex c.1806.
So far I have failed to find the town of Easton or anything remotely like it in Sussex.

Charlotte Pelham's parents were Ann and Reverend (could be Richard??). She married William Streeter c.1824 in Sussex, again that mysterious place, Easton.
The only Charlotte Pelham who remotely resembles my lady whose mother's name is Ann was christened in 1815 in Boxgrove.

If anyone can shed any light on this lady I would be eternally grateful.

There are only two marriages recorded in Sussex for a Charlotte Pelham, neither look like the Charlotte you are looking for.

Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Ripe, East Sussex,  Date: 11 Oct 1801:
Subject: Charlotte PELHAM, sp
Spouse: Jonathan TOWNSHEND, bach botp (B)

Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Brede, East Sussex,  Date: 22 Apr 1810:
Subject: Charlotte PELHAM
Spouse: Elias NEEVES, botp  (B)

This looks like the marriage of the parents, Richard & Ann, that you talk about at Boxgrove.

Place: Boxgrove, West Sussex,  Date: 23 Apr 1810:
Subject: Richard PELHAM
Spouse: Ann ABARRA

I wouldn't put too much credence on pedigree sources from the LDS.  Start looking afresh.  Hope this helps.  Get back to me if you need anything else regarding marriages, there seems to be plenty of Pelham's in Sussex (249 marriages) so it looks like you are in the right place,

Just had a look on the Sussex Family History Group site  http://www.sfhg.org.uk/newmap_of_parishes.html
and can't find a place called EASTON.......Easeborn or Eastbourne are the nearest I could see.  I'm sure if it's not listed there it doesn't exist unless anyone else knows of such a place,

Genie, just been scouting around the LDS IGI site, could Easton be EAST PRESTON???
A bit of a Pelham community there and also in Boxgrove.

Thankyou so much for replying.

Again, the only Charlotte I could find with a mother named Ann was christened in Boxgrove in 1815, but seeing as Charlotte's first child to Wm. Streete was born in 1826 this doesn't quite fit - an 11 year old mother, i.e. if she was christened not long after birth! Why do people submit these facts on LDS if they seem to be incorrect 

I'll start afresh as you suggest and see what I can come up with. Even on the death certificates of her children Charlotte's maiden name differs on each one, from Pilbim to Philbim and all things in between!

If you ever come across a William Streeter's marriage in Sussex c.1824-1826 could you please let me know.

There are two William Streeter marriages to an 'Anne' in the period 1824 - 1826

Spouse: Ann HUMPHRIES, botp.
 
Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Balcombe, West Sussex,  Date:  2 Sep 1826:
Subject: William STREATER
Spouse: Ann MITCHELL, botp.(B)
 
Dont know whether either of them will ring any bells

Itchingfield is near Horsham in West Sussex
Balcombe is about 10 miles away, but nearer to Haywards Heath

Boxgrove on the other hand is some 25 miles south of either of the bove - its near Arundel

I'm actually looking for William Streeter marrying a Charlotte Pelham. The marriages you mentioned don't ring a bell at all.
This one really has me stumped, maybe her name wasn't what she said it was?? After looking at some of the family's certificates I have here, it seems they were prone to telling 'fibs' - a lot of good that does me!

I tried searching the IGI tonight but as often the case, couldn't access it. Will keep trying.

Thanks so much for all your help, especially in regards to the towns in Sussex. Being in Oz I have absolutely no idea about such things.

How about this one - could be a bad transcription of both names - worth checking against the original as date and forenames match - both surnames sound like what we are looking for
