Samuel Slack
« on: Sunday 11 June 06 10:29 BST (UK) »
My GGG Grandfather Samuel Slack is shown on the 1851 census as born c1798 in Broadham Notts. I assume that this would be Broadholme. Can anyone give me a clue as to which parish his birth would be recorded in please, and also if there is a source for NTT registers on the internet?
  Regards - Dave

Thanks for your help Sylvia. I have already come across this Samuel and am fairly certain he is not the one I want.
Thanks again - Dave

Thanks for the info Sylvia, but I don't as yet know enough about him to be certain of anything. I have re-posted the topic on the Notts board and it seems that the records for his birth parish (Thorney) have not yet been transcribed, so I will have to wait until I can make a trip to the archives in Nottingham.
Thanks again for your help :) regards - Dave

Can you tell me a little more about the Samuel Slack you are researching?  One of my ancestors is also a Samuel Slack, father of Sarah Slack (born c 1823 in Codnor, married Thomas Hand).  If it's the same one I'd love to hear more about him - all I have now is a name.  Thanks.

I have an MI St James Church Codnor
In affectionate rememberance of Samuel Slack who dparted this life Feb 12th 1865 age 64 years

and hannah Slack wife of samuel died Sept 3rd 1870 in her 63nd year
(also verse if required)

there are other slacks in the churchyard too

checking census it looks like hannah was his 2nd wife

Thanks for the Codnor cemetery details.  I'll try to follow that link back by looking for them in census details, to see if he has a daughter Sarah at any stage.

(I thought I'd found "my" Sarah and father Samuel in the 1841 census (living in Wirksworth) but the family reappear in the 1841 census, whereas by then "my" Sarah is living with her husband, Thomas Hand.)

There are these christenings IGI extracted
Thomas Slack 29 sept 1822 Heanor
Sarah Slack 29 Sept 1824 heanor
parents Samuel/mary

there is a Thomas of correct age b. Codnor in 1851 living in heanor -lodger

there is also (what looks like ) the same Thomas in 1841 -again not with family.

Baptisms for Codnor people would probably be in heanor at that time -as there was no church in Codnor until c 1844

I have all the marriags at Codnor St James from 1844-1894 -there are slacks- but none with father Samuel.
