Dunn's - Fettercairn, Kincardineshire- 1841/51/61 census
« on: Tuesday 13 June 06 21:37 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me with my quest to unravel an enormous ball of wool!!!  I need to trace the family of William and Isobel Dunn in the 1841/51 census.  They had a number of children but I would just like to check what happened to some of them.  For example they had a William Dunn in 1823 (I think) but they had a further child in 1843 also named William - I can only assume that the first William passed away and they named their last child William.  Also they had in all - I think 12 children but some must have passed away and I know that some married.  Can anyone help me?

Hi Bo.Bo,

Is the wife's maiden name Simpson or Dunn ?  If Simpson, an Isabella Simpson married a William Dunn at St Nicholas, Aberdeen on 25 Oct 1839.
Their family, all born St Nicholas:

George 15 May 1840
Mary 21 Nov 1841
William 13 Oct 1843
Isabella 20 Aug 1845
Margaret 7 Aug 1849

If this is the correct family, did they move to Fettercairn ?

Me again Bo Bo. If you're sure that the family you're looking for will be in the Fettercairn census, I can check the 1851 and 1861 which are held at my local library.

Hi BoBo and Isles,

A quick check of the 1841 census index for Scotland reveals no Dunns at all in Fettercairn.

Sorry about that.
Fox (Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Yorkshire); Stockton (Shropshire, Yorkshire); Moody (Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Yorkshire); Kershaw (Yorkshire); Martyn (Cornwall); Barnacle (Warwickshire, Leicestershire), Cox (Staffordshire); Dunn (Staffordshire); Mitchell (Yorkshire); Evers (Yorkshire)

Hi Isles and Lancs.fox
Many thanks for all your help but I think I need new glasses.  It must have been late or something - maybe the drink! - but it isn't Dunn but Sherret!!  Sorry!!!
Same thing but different surname - William Sherret married Isobel Stephen.  They had 12 children and I would like to find out about some of them - if you can still trust me.  My apologies for the confusion but you are all so fast!!!  I know that the first child ( unless one died) was born in 1819 and the last 1843.  Again same problem two Williams - one born 1823 and another 1843.  Can you still give me some assistance even though I'm going mad fast!!!
Thanks

No problem Bo-Bo.  I'm sure we've all done that at some time.  In my case it's called a 'senior moment' !!  I'll check the Fettercairn Census which will give William Sherret's and also his wife's birthplace etc.,

Dear Isles
Many thanks for your patience.  "senior moment" a truely good phrase which I don't believe!  I'm a nutter who copes with a full time job, 3 kids and keeps house (mine preferably!).
Thanks again

Hi Monica
Many thanks for your reply.  There was another daughter called Isabella- born approx 1825.  She's not on the census but I know she was married to William Burness.  Could they already be married?  Is there any way of checking?
Thanks
